At 9:20 am on September 25, 2017, with the Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen pressing the gate operation button, the Hydropower Lower Sesan 2 power plant that has longest dam in Asia and also known as the largest hydropower project in Cambodia began to store water.
P rime Minister Hun Sen had highly praised China for its important contribution to Cambodia's electric power industry and economic development in the ceremony speech. He also had expressed his gratitude to China Huaneng Group for its strong support for Cambodia's power construction.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia Hun Sen, the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Xiong Bo, and the General Manager of China Huaneng Group Huang Yongda had attended the water storage ceremony at the site of Hydropower Lower Sesan 2 Project. More than 3,000 people attended the ceremony including Cambodian government officials at all levels, local residents, representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises in Cambodia and members of community, etc.
